KUALA LUMPUR, 18 October 2025 – Every Malaysian football journey begins not in the stadiums, but on the humble padang (field) — where dreams are born, families gather and communities come together. These fields have long been the heartbeat of local football culture, nurturing generations of talent and passion.
Inspired by this deep-rooted connection between football and community, Astro proudly introduced the #IniPadangKita initiative at the launch of the Malaysia Football League (MFL) 2025–2026 season. The initiative stems from Asto’s ongoing commitment to championing grassroots sports and uplifting local communities.
Through #IniPadangKita, Astro aims to restore and rejuvenate fields, transforming them into safe, vibrant spaces where children can play freely, youth can train confidently, and communities can come together. The first of these efforts started at Padang Bola Sepak Kampung Jawa in Hulu Langat, home to Serama Football Academy. Over 100 kids from nearby villages, including Orang Asli communities, train here weekly. Run by the local community and supported by families, the academy has already nurtured young talents noticed by teams like JDT, Selangor, and PDRM.
Euan Smith, Group Chief Executive Officer, Astro, said, “The love for football runs deep in Malaysia, and it’s something that connects us all. Through #IniPadangKita, we want to create lasting opportunities for young Malaysians to grow, for communities to come together, and for the next generation to believe that their dreams can start right where they are. This is about giving back to the places that shaped so many of our own stories and ensuring that these fields remain alive, safe, and full of promise for years to come. Astro is committed to keeping that spirit alive by supporting grassroots football and nurturing young talent across the country.”

Restoration works began on 16 October, during which Astro and several event sponsors came together to recondition their local field — they repainted the field lines and benches, replaced goal nets, and built a new small shelter. Just two days after the restoration, the field came alive as Astro hosted a football clinic led by its renowned pundits and former players; Farizal Marlias, Razman Roslan, Nizaruddin Yusof and S. Subramaniam, joined by players from KL City FC. The event offered young aspiring footballers a rare and inspiring opportunity to train side by side with their heroes, turning the newly refurbished field into a space of learning, mentorship and setting dreams in motion.

#IniPadangKita is more than just a field refurbishment — it’s about reigniting the community spirit that fuels Malaysian football. The first football clinic was made possible through the support of our official sponsors: Decathlon, who generously provided the sports equipment and Sports Media & Distributor, who provided the sports apparel for the academy's talents. Their contributions ensure that aspiring players are fully equipped and ready to train with confidence. More clinics are coming soon — maybe even at a padang near you.
