Astro renews partnership with AFC as Official Media Partner in Malaysia until 2028/29

Agreement ensures broad coverage of Asia's flagship national team and club competitions for local football enthusiasts

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) today announced the renewal of its long-standing partnership with Astro, Malaysia’s leading content and entertainment provider, extending its role as the Confederation’s Official Media Partner in Malaysia.

The renewed agreement builds on a successful three-year collaboration dating back to 2023 that included the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26™ and other national tournaments as well as all AFC club competitions. The extension will see Astro deliver comprehensive coverage of premier Asian football to passionate fans nationwide.

Under the new agreement, Astro will hold media rights to the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™. The partnership further encompasses a comprehensive portfolio of other men’s, women’s, and youth tournaments, including the Women's Olympic Football Tournament 2028 Asian Qualifiers (Final Round for Los Angeles 2028). Astro will also retain the rights to all matches of the AFC Champions League Elite™, the AFC Champions League Two™ and the AFC Women's Champions League™ from 2026 through to 2028/29.

By continuing to provide access to these prestigious competitions, this partnership ensures that viewers across the country can follow Asia's biggest football moments, from the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ to the Continent’s elite club competitions, until the 2028/2029 season.

AFC General Secretary, Datuk Seri Windsor John said: “Astro has been a fantastic partner in growing the footprint of the Asian game in Malaysia, and we are confident they will continue to deliver captivating, multi-platform viewing experiences for Asia's premier football tournaments.

“Renewing our long-standing alliance with Astro reflects our shared vision of bringing the Continent’s world-class AFC competitions closer to fans and we look forward to working hand-in-hand with Astro to deepen football engagement and showcase the incredible talent across Asia’s national team and club tournament.”

Nicholas John, Head of Sports, Astro, said, “Our renewed partnership with the AFC underscores Astro’s commitment to bringing Malaysian fans closer to the very best of Asian football. From the AFC Asian Cup™ to the region’s top-tier club competitions, we are proud to continue delivering every defining moment, live and across multiple platforms—including Astro Arena (CH 801 & 802), Astro Football (CH 814), Astro GO, NJOI and Sooka—to fans nationwide.

“As viewing habits evolve, we remain focused on innovating the sports experience—making it more accessible, immersive, and engaging than ever. This partnership not only strengthens our premium sports offering but also reinforces Astro’s role as the home of sports in Malaysia.”

Patrick Murphy, Chief Executive Officer of Asia Football Group, said: “As the home of the AFC, Malaysia sits at the heart of Asian football, and this renewal keeps fans connected to AFC competitions through to 2028/29.  Astro has been a long-term media partner of the AFC and we are delighted to continue our partnership for more seasons to come.”
