Teng Lee Yein, Astro, and some of the South East Asian Directors specially commissioned by A-List
Ten up-and-coming South East Asian directors have been specially commissioned by Astro A-List (CH 456) to produce 10 short films which will premiere on 2 December 2018 at the 29th Singapore International Film Festival. A-List, home to critically acclaimed and award-winning films,has engaged the following South East Asian directors for the short films that are based on the theme “Love”: Amanda Nell Eu (Malaysia); Anysay Keola (Laos); Kavich Neang (Cambodia); Le Bao (Vietnam); Makbul Mubarak (Indonesia); Nicole Midori Woodford (Singapore); Nik Amir Mustapha (Malaysia); Sharifah Amani (Malaysia); Sheron Dayoc (Philippines) and Sorayos Prapapan (Thailand).
Astro A-List continues to champion emerging talents from Asia and provides recognition and platforms for their films. These ten directors represent an extensive mix of up-and-coming cinematic talents from South East Asia and the premiere of their short films on A-List will provide customers with a unique viewing experience.
From the list of 10 directors, the three who will represent Malaysia are Sharifah Amani, Amanda Nell Eu, and Nik Amir Mustapha. Sharifah Amani started off her career in acting before exploring her interest in directing. She has since directed several titles including Sangkar (2010) and Hawa (2013), which was screened at the 2015 Roppongi Malaysian Film Week in Tokyo, Japan. Amanda Nell Eu directed Lagi Senang Jaga Sekandang Lembu (2017) which premiered in competition at the 74th Venice Film Festival 2017 and received special mention at the 2017 Uppsala International Short Film Festival and Nik Amir Mustapha, took home the award for Best Film at the 2015 ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards for film, Terbaik dari Langit (2014).
