Individual fined for link to Projek: High Council drama without permission

A student was fined by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court for having in his possession an unauthorised link to a popular local TV drama series on his devices.

The 22-year-old Computer Science student was charged under Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for possessing without permission, the link to popular drama series Projek: High Council owned by MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Berhad on his devices. A police report was lodged on 11 February 2023 and a raid was conducted by CCID IPD Cheras of The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) on 14 February 2023. The accused’s mobile phone and laptop were confiscated while he was remanded for two days for investigation.  

The accused pleaded guilty and paid afine of RM600 under Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955.  

Under Section 29 (1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955, any person who has in his/her possession or conveys in any manner anything which may be reasonably suspected of being stolen or fraudulently obtained shall, if he fails to account satisfactorily how he came by the same, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year, or to both.
