KUALA LUMPUR: Maxis, Astro, Bumi Armada and MEASAT announced today a combined contribution of RM5 million to the Government’s Dana Ihsan MADANI in support of ongoing flood relief and recovery efforts.
The contribution was presented today to Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, by Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Ali Redhauddin Ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Chairman of Astro Malaysia Berhad, Yang Mulia Raja Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad bin Raja Tun Uda, Chairman of Bumi Armada, Dato' Hamidah Naziadin, Interim Chairman and Goh Seow Eng, Chief Executive Officer of Maxis, and Shaharul Rezza Hassan, Director of MEASAT.
Maxis contributed RM2 million to this initiative, with Astro, Bumi Armada and MEASAT each contributing RM1 million. The collective cash contribution is to support flood victims following the significant impact of recent floods in multiple states across Malaysia, especially in the East Coast region.
In addition, each organisation has been playing its part to assist affected communities through various humanitarian initiatives.
Maxis has distributed 4,000 free mobile SIM cards and top ups at temporary relief centres (PPS) and provided essential supplies to 1,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) students impacted by the floods. In addition to its network mitigation and community aid initiatives, Maxis also works closely with the authorities on flood alerts and response measures.
Maxis and MEASAT are committed to ensuring dependable connectivity in flood-hit areas by providing free WiFi, mobile and satellite broadband connectivity at PPS and affected areas, and also for rescue operations. This will also enable impacted families and evacuees to stay connected with their loved ones, as well as help flood response teams to coordinate on-ground relief operations effectively.
Astro actively demonstrated its commitment to supporting communities affected by the recent flood crisis through a series of relief efforts under the Yayasan Astro Kasih Relief Fund. Public donations and corporate contributions were mobilised to provide assistance to those in need. Astro Radio's Kami Care Misi Banjir Donation Drive collected essential items such as dry foods and household supplies. In addition, flood victims were eligible for free Astro Box replacements. Astro staff volunteers were also ready to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts. Through its Voice for Good initiatives, Astro’s digital and media platforms amplified awareness, rallied support, and delivered real-time flood updates.
