The story begins when a family of Arya (Mario Lawalata) with his wife, Kiran (Ririn Ekawati) and their two daughters, Srimaya (Benaya Farah) and Nawangsih (Gisellma & Chrissie) moved into an old house belongs to Arya’s late father. Everything seems just fine until one day little Nawangsih found a very old lamp inside a box which is a heritage from Arya’s late father. Since then, Nawangsih has unusual connection with the spirit that lives inside the old lamp.
Nawangsih is the work of a famous Indonesian singer and songwriter, Melly Goeslow. Directed by Hedy Suryawan, the series also promises intense tension with the music score produced by a renowned musician Anto Hoed.
Telkomsel’s Head of Digital Lifestyle, Crispin Tristram said, “We are very excited to be able to produce another MAXstream Original. As a video streaming service, MAXstream has been consistently offering digital video content for the users as well as empowering Indonesian creatives to hone their craft by using our platform to amplify the reach of their work to the wider public. This is in line with our mission in developing the Indonesian digital ecosystem and give the best digital lifestyle experience.”
Astro’s Director of Content, Agnes Rozario said, “Astro is thrilled with the release of Nawangsih, our first co-production with our partner, Telkomsel. We believe in storytelling and are committed to bringing more of these to life with like-minded partners. We hope to replicate the success of our previous Indonesian productions, Gantung and Dosa, and have lined a slate of potential content IPs for development across different genres and formats from films to series to short form digital shows. With Nawangsih, we have undoubtedly strengthened our dynamic relationship with Telkomsel and this collaboration is only the first of many more to come.”
MAXstream has also previously produced an original series titled "Brata", a crime thriller drama starring Oka Antara and Laura Basuki. Brata has now been watched by more than 1 million views since the launch of its first episode on MAXstream in September 2018. MAXstream’s other originals that also get high attention are Critical Eleven and Pulang Pulang Ganteng.
In addition to its originals, MAXstream also provides other entertainment contents such as films, TV shows, sports (English Premier League, Italian Serie A, France Ligue 1, Spanish La Liga, and many more), and cartoons from various video on demand service channels and international TV. Since its launch in 2018, MAXstream has become one of the most popular video services in Indonesia with more than 9 million downloads.
Crispin then explained that along with the increasing interest in digital video services, Telkomsel is committed to continuing to work on this segment. Telkomsel itself noted that in the past year, video payload on its network has increased significantly to 250%. Which represents a great opportunity to Indonesian content producers.
“Telkomsel will continue to seriously work on the video service segment to increase the penetration of films and other video contents in Indonesia. With the increasing popularity of smartphones supported by broadband network, this is made possible through streaming service which offered by MAXstream. This app will also continue to grow as a marketplace for all Telkomsel video content provider partners, and be part of Indonesian content ecosystem,” stated Crispin.
