Statement on COVID-19

Following notification from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Astro Malaysia wish to inform that an employee working in our Outside Broadcast (OB Truck) transportation team at the All Asia Broadcast Centre, Bukit Jalil has been tested positive for COVID-19 on 5 April 2020. The employee is receiving medical treatment at a government hospital.

An Astro spokesperson said, “We wish to emphasise that health and safety of our employees is our biggest priority. We are working to identify those who have come in contact with the employee concerned. As a precautionary measure, our Bukit Jalil broadcast center will be closed today for full sanitization and reopens on 8th April.”

Astro is committed to safety measures at the office to keep its employees safe. These include increased frequency and level of cleaning of its offices, providing hand sanitisers, encouraging social distancing at the cafes and lifts, taking temperatures of all employees entering its premises, cancelled shows with live audience and public events and many more.

Astro’s broadcast is unimpacted by this development. The company has activated its business continuity plans to safeguard its operations and to ensure the safety of its employees. Its teams are currently split across different sites with significant majority working from home.
