Astro’s inaugural 24-hour LIVE telecast of Thaipusam was awarded the Longest Thaipusam Festival Celebration Live Broadcast and the Longest Thaipusam Celebration Live Broadcast Hosting By An Individual by The Malaysia Book of Records. Aired on Astro Vaanavil (Ch 201) via TV, Astro GO and On Demand from 24 January, 9pm until 25 January, 9pm, the inaugural 24-hour live telecast of Thaipusam coverage is the first continuous TV live telecast featured an extensive array of 19 hosts who shared live updates from distinguished local temples in Batu Caves, Georgetown, Ipoh and Sungai Petani. This year’s live telecast of Thaipusam has accomplished a record-breaking success out of all the Thaipusam live coverage aired on Astro thus far by achieving the highest viewership to date translating to an increase of 192% in contrast with last year. Themed #NandriKantha, the first-ever 24-hour live telecast of Thaipusam coverage was presented by Goodday.
During the award presentation ceremony on 6 February 2024 at the Astro headquarters in Bukit Jalil, Prem Anand, Vice President, Indian Customer Business, Astro together with the Astro team received the prestigious Longest Thaipusam Festival Celebration Live Broadcast award from Lee Pooi Leng, an officer of The Malaysia Book of Records. The Longest Thaipusam Celebration Live Broadcast Hosting By An Individual award was received by Meena Kumari, one of the hosts of the 24-hour LIVE telecast of Thaipusam.
