ASTRO AND CJ E&M ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO CREATE CONTENT AND EVENTS FOR ASEAN

26 April 2017, Denpasar � Leading content and consumer company in Southeast Asia, Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad (Astro) is pleased to announce its strategic partnership with CJ E&M (CJ), South Korea�s leading Korean content and media company on co-production of signature and original IPs for ASEAN, marketing and distribution of Korean content, partnering on eSports and on-ground events.

Henry Tan, Chief Operating Officer of Astro said, �Our strategic partnership with CJ marks another key milestone for Astro and Tribe. We have built a very strong franchise and fan base of Korean content.  Malaysians and our Tribe audiences in Philippines and Indonesia want more! We are excited to announce our partnership with CJ to co-produce signature and original IPs not only for Malaysian but ASEAN audiences. This signals our commitment to investing in quality content verticals with like-minded partners, leveraging on one another�s key strengths.  The collaboration also includes marketing, distribution and monetisation of CJ content IPs as well as movies, eSports and signature festivals where we will bring to bear our customer reach and capabilities across our media assets in Malaysia, and potentially across the region.�

The Astro - CJ E&M partnership is consistent with Astro�s pursuit towards co-owning key IPs that have regional appeal, and towards our aspiration of becoming a leading ASEAN content creator, aggregator and distributor. The partnership will commence later this year with collaboration on eSports, co-production, tvN Asia and Movies distribution and a Korean festival showcasing an integrated K-pop gala concert and Hallyu (Korean wave) convention that connects Korean fans in Malaysia and the region.
